Oldgate
The city's oldest working quarter: makers, print shops and converted industrial floors.
Oldgate kept its trades. There is still a bookbinder on Cutler Street, still two print shops, still a foundry that makes railings for half the city. The residential stock is almost entirely conversion — upper floors of workshops, a former bottling plant, a tram depot.
Ceiling heights are the reason people move here. Almost nothing in Oldgate has a ceiling under three and a half metres, and almost nothing has a small window.

Conversions vary enormously. Ask what was done between floors; the good schemes used a floating screed.
Parking
Oldgate is a controlled zone. Most conversions carry one permit; a second is not usually available.
